Good tools for detecting duplicated code are scarce because of the large amount of data to be checked, because duplicated code is not known a priori and because especially it requires parsing technology. In this paper we show that is possible to circumvent these complicating factors by applying a language independent and lightweigth approach, i.e. a tool that requires no parsing and a little learning and configuration time, yet is able to detect a significant amount of code duplication. We validate our approach on a number of case studies, involving five different implementation languages and ranging from 256 K up untill 26Mb of source code.}, annote = {internationalconference}, top = {A in CORE2013}, }
